I was listening to a podcast today where an old NYPD detective was relating how, even after 30 years of policing, he was still learning about crime and criminals. Reading Jack Black's memoir, "You Can't Win", opened my eyes to the life of a petty criminal in a way that none of the interviews I did over the years had. It really resonated with me. I'll have much more to say on him after my edit, but I wanted him up here now.

Here's a link to his book online. It is such a valuable and important social history document.
